  4.     In your story on India's rising prosperity (WORLD, Nov. 13),
  5. V.A. Pai Panandiker, director of New Delhi's Center for Policy
  6. Research, predicts that in ten years about 300 million Indians will
  7. be members of the middle class. However, the majority of that class
  8. in no way measures up to the lowest level of the middle class in
  9. the U.S. Furthermore, it is nearly certain that the jarring
  10. juxtaposition of those living below the poverty line (about a third
  11. of the country's 835 million people) and the "consumer-happy middle
  12. class" will eventually result in a revolution as the poor strive
  13. to improve their own sad economic state.
